Why this list and not a Google search
Search "help with my VA claim" and the results are companies that charge a percentage of your back pay. Most of them are not accredited, and only accredited people may prepare or prosecute a VA claim for a fee (38 CFR 14.629). The 8,698 VSO representatives here do the same work for nothing, because the law forbids them from charging for it.
We publish what the roster says and nothing else: no ratings, no rankings, no paid placement. Nobody here paid to be listed, and we could not remove them if they asked.
What the roster does and does not tell you
- 15,396 accredited: 8,698 VSO representatives, 5,996 attorneys, 702 claims agents.
- 1,659 of them publish no direct phone number — the number listed is an organization switchboard shared across many states. Those listings are flagged throughout this directory.
- The VA publishes no quality or outcome data on any of them, so neither do we. Board of Veterans' Appeals decisions named the representative until roughly 2018 and stopped; there is no current source for a win rate, and we will not invent one.
- Accreditation can lapse. We snapshot the roster and keep the history, so a representative who comes off it can be spotted rather than discovered.
What any of them may charge you
- VSO representatives cannot charge a fee. Ever. Not for filing, not for "document review", not a percentage of back pay (38 CFR 14.636).
- Accredited attorneys and claims agents may charge, but only after the VA has issued an initial decision on the claim (38 USC 5904). Anyone charging to file your first claim is either not accredited or not allowed to.
- Nobody who is not on the VA's roster may prepare or prosecute your claim for a fee (38 CFR 14.629), whatever they call themselves.
Check any name on this page against the VA Office of General Counsel accreditation search before you sign a thing. VetAid takes no payment for placement here and endorses nobody.
