Common questions

Why does it matter what I write down today?

Because the rating decision can take months, and by the time it arrives the exam is a blur. An account written the same day is specific — how long it lasted, what was measured, what was never asked — and specific is what makes a statement worth reading.

Does a short exam mean a bad exam?

Not on its own. The regulation sets no minimum length. What matters is whether the report contains enough detail to rate the disability, which is what § 4.2 is about.

Who can help me file this for free?

VA-accredited Veterans Service Organizations — the DAV, VFW, American Legion and your state or county Veterans Service Officer — prepare and file claims at no charge. They are accredited to represent you. This tool is not.
